THE NEW WHITNEY
I finally had the chance to go check out the new Whitney Museum location on the Meatpacking District. I have been many times on the Madison Avenue location, but this new location for sure has what no other museum in the city has: the amazing waterfront view and pretty much 360 views of the rooftops of the meat packing district.
I thought very interesting how the views are incorporated as an extension of the museum. There are also an intended care in making the visitor to take a seat and enjoy the art ambience (surrouding)and the beautiful views of the city. The outdoor terraces architecture and seating area choice of colors, shapes and materials transpire art and design with an urban and modern twist, inviting the viewer to observe the architecture and characteristics, perhaps even history of the now trendy Manhattan neighborhood .
Indoors, every floor suggests a unique atmosphere. The open and spread out layout made me feel surrounded by the art. The color contrast and exposition of each piece is flawless.
walking around in this museum is very easy and also allows the visitor to get to know what goes in behind the scenes of a museum, so don’t get the elevator , use the stairs instead and while “getting some exercise” you will be able to witness, through glass wall rooms, meetings where decisions about the museum are been made. I thought that was also a pretty neat experience, it felt like there where was an exchange of creativity and art expression in the air, and it that was very inspiring.
